State
Representative Jim Hackworth Announces His
Re-Election Bid for the Tennessee General Assembly

Representative touts strong
record of fiscal responsibility,
education, improved health care and bringing new jobs to Anderson County
(Clinton) – State
Representative Jim Hackworth (D-Clinton) today announced his
re-election bid for the 33rd Legislative District in the Tennessee
General Assembly.
“Over the past six years I
have listened to my constituents, and I have worked hard to represent
the values of our families,” Hackworth said. “It has been a
honor to serve the citizens of Anderson County and it is my desire to
continue that service in the coming years.”
First elected in 2002,
Hackworth cited his strong record on fiscal responsibility,
improving education, expanding in-home health care, getting tough on
those who hire illegal immigrants, reducing taxes on working families
and seniors, keeping us safe, and helping bring new job opportunities to
Anderson County as reasons why he should be returned to the General
Assembly in November.
“Good government is about
making good choices and as your representative, I will continue doing
everything I can to make sure the Tennessee House of Representatives
makes good choices when it comes to local schools having adequate
resources, our teachers having competitive salaries, making quality
health care more affordable and available, improving the safety of our
neighborhoods and bringing more good paying jobs here to Anderson
County,” Hackworth said.
Hackworth also
emphasized his close relationship with Governor Bredesen and his ability
to work across party lines to get real results for Anderson County.
“By working closely with
the Governor, as well as members from the other side of the aisle, I
have been able to accomplish many improvements in education funding and
long-term care reform,” Hackworth said. “Building upon and
maintaining those gains will be my top priority in Nashville in the
years ahead.”
A native of Anderson
County, Hackworth is the son of James and Peggy Saunders
Hackworth of Clinton. He lived in Oak Ridge, Clinton and Dutch
Valley prior to graduating from Clinton High School in 1969. He
received an associate's degree in supervision and management from Roane
State Community College and received bachelor's and master's degrees in
applied organizational management from Tusculum College.
Jim and his wife, Brenda,
have two sons, a grandson and a granddaughter. He is a past
president of the Claxton Optimist Club and the Anderson County Habitat
for Humanity. Jim and Brenda are members of the First United
Methodist Church in Oak Ridge.
The Democratic Primary
for the State House of Representatives is August 7.
The General Election is November 4.
